Photo by Sue StimpsonThe three games scheduled to be played at Redlands Tigers’ home grounds at Wellington Point on Saturday, plus the away game for third grade, were abandoned because of wet weather, resulting in a draw for each team.
However, the Redlands versus University first grade game was able to start on time at St Lucia, with University losing four wickets as they took first innings points. Ryan LeLoux was among the wickets, taking two for 20.
Two games were played on Sunday, resulting in wins for Redlands.
Fifth grade scored a great win thanks to Stephan Gouws, who scored 109, and Mitch Davis, who finished on 45. Youngster Brayden Wallis also played a valuable role batting for more than two hours to hold things together.
The sixth grade no. 2 team continued on their winning way with a close win over Wests. After being in a winning position thanks to a solid innings of 65 from Matthew Bloye, Redlands lost valuable wickets. It took the number 9 batsman to score the winning runs. Wests batted again and were three for 41, with Fraser Haynes taking two wickets for four runs.
The Hoppy’s Car Wash Player of the Week award goes to Gouws for his match-winning century in fifth grade.
1st grade: Redlands 179 (L Hope-Shackley 50*, S Milenko 41) lost to University 4/185 (R LeLoux 2/20, J Stimpson 1/39).
2nd grade: Redlands 160 (M Drennan 47, C French 35, S Moss 28) drew with University 0/16 day two washed out.
3rd grade: Redlands 274 (J Goodwin 119, J Casalaina 60) drew with University day two washed out.
4th grade: Redlands 160 (J Stevenson 48, D Grey 48) drew with University 2/72 (A Barrie 1/12, B James 1/16) day two washed out.
5th grade: Redlands 236 (S Gouws 109, M Davis 45) def University 207 (M Davis 5/37, A Ward 3/49, D Wallis 2/46).
6th grade (1): Redlands 216 (M Redhead 66, E MacNamara 33, D Cassell 30) drew University 0/13 day two washed out.
6th grade (2): Redlands 158 (M Bloye 65, L Parsons 29) def Wests 154 (L Padley 3/30, F Haynes 2/17, D Mathieson 2/32, J Cross 2/35) and 3/41 (F Haynes 2/4).
