Teens invited to Milton show afternoon tea

CALL FOR ENTRIES: Last year’s Teen Showgirl winner, musician Chloe Dadd is encouraging girls in years eight and nine to take part in the 2015 event.

The Teen Showgirl competition is a valuable stepping stone to the Milton Showgirl and Blessing of the Fleet competitions.

Girls in years eight or nine at any local school can enter the competition which aims to boost the social, presentation and interview skills of participants.

Organiser Angela Brook is encouraging teens to take part in a friendly afternoon of scone making, cup cake decorating and discussion on February 15 in the lead up to this year’s Milton Show.

She said participants would meet members of the show committee who would help them bake and decorate, before enjoying an afternoon tea.

Each girl will learn about personal presentation and public speaking skills before being interviewed by judges who will talk with them about their involvement in the show and the local community.

Angela said the competition would provide skills vital for job interviews and other competitions such as the Blessing of the Fleet and future showgirl events.

“We hope to have a good turn-out of young girls,” she said.

“It’s always a fun afternoon and the participants get to meet new people and take on board new skills.”

Last year’s winner was Chloe Dadd who took part in the show’s Friday night Milton Idol competition before taking out the teen crown.

Any girls wishing to enter need to register as soon as possible by calling Angela on 0448 738 424.

The winner will be announced at the show on Saturday February 21 and all participants will be invited to take part in the Grand Parade and help out in the pavilion and with the petting zoo.

The Junior Showgirl competition will also be held on Saturday at the show, with entrants from years four, five and six invited to register on the day before being interviewed by judges.

Angela is encouraging young boys to take part in the Master Stockman competition, with entries invited from age five to 10 on the Saturday of the show as well.

“This is always a fun event where the boys wear their ‘cowboy best’ outfits and are judged on personality, presentation and participation in the show,” she added.
