NEW Minyip-Murtoa coach Jaye Macumber believes his team is building up for a run at the Wimmera Football League premiership this year.
Macumber, who took over from Scott Arnold at the end of last season, said the club had kept its core group of players together this year.
‘‘We haven’t lost anyone to other clubs, which is important because at this time of year you expect to lose a few players,’’ he said.
‘‘It means we can continue to build instead of going into rebuild mode, which is a big thing for us.’’
Macumber said the team practised together before Christmas, and that after the break the majority of the team was either as fit or fitter than they had been before the break.
‘‘I love what we’re doing down here. It has been really positive, even the reserves are showing up for fitness,’’ he said.
‘‘A lot of the guys are saying they weren’t feeling all the work we’ve been doing even though it is a fair bit.’’
