A Brisbane man is expected to appear in court on Australia Day after he allegedly drove drunk and set fire to a home in Logan.
Initial police investigations suggest the blaze started just before midnight Sunday and caused “substantial damage” to a home in Ewing St, Logan Central.
Its believed the 36-year-old Alexandra Hills man was asked to leave the house about half an hour before he allegedly started the fire.
No one was injured during the incident. It’s unclear how many people were home at the time but police said only one person was listed at the address.
Police charged the Alexandra Hills man with acts intending to disfigure, endangering particular property by fire, enter premises and commit indictable offence and drink driving.
He was expected to appear in the Beenleigh Magistrates Court Monday morning.
Meanwhile, police are investigating after fire destroyed a house on South Stradbroke Island overnight.
No one was home when the Doeblin Drive, Couran Point, home caught fire at about 9.30pm.
Scientific and forensic officers were expected to examine the scene later Monday and the fire’s cause is still unknown.
