Inverell Mayor Paul Harmon spoke highly of this year’s Australia Day awardees in Inverell, as well as attending ceremonies in Delungra and Ashford recognising the efforts of volunteers and community stalwarts across the local area.

The Inverell Toughen Up Challenge was jointly awarded Community Event of the Year in Inverell, alongside the New England Mutual annual fundraiser which has donated $30,000 to local charities and organisations over the past decade.

A welcome patch of shade drew one of the best Australia Day crowds in Inverell over the three years the ceremony has been held at Victoria Park. Estimates of several hundred locals attended the event.

Local attendees Jazzmen, Anthony, Gregory and Charlie Neff with Janette and Rick Moore said it was one of the best crowds to turn out at Victoria Park in a number of years.
